I think I've figured it out. (rant)

Something that I've noticed about myself is that when I borrow a book, it takes me FOREVER to read it (I have a friend who is the same way). This is something that is perfectly normal for me. I will eventually read them. But, *I* have to be the one who expresses the initial interest in reading it.

I've been handed (on loan) three books over the past year. All of them are the inspirational, change your world view sort of books. All of them were lent to me without my knowing they existed until they were handed to me.

I have only read one of them (the first), and that was because it was my boss who said I should read it for work. A few weeks later, when the district manager asked if I had read it yet (I hadn't), he got pissed at me for not being 'responsible' or other some such whatever. So, I read it (it was short). It was kinda pointless. I was in NO WAS inspired. I couldn't return the book fast enough.

The other two books were just given to me, and are of a similar stripe. I have only touched them to move them out of my way when I needed the table space for something else.

Thanks to my teacher friend, I think I've figured out why I'm so reluctant to use these books as more than a paperweight. It's because they're nothing more than freaking unsolicited advice in paper form. They're the exact same damn thing as somebody saying "you know, what you need to do is..."

I detest these bloody books. I've read several of them (willingly), and they just don't jazz me up like you see them doing on Oprah.

So, yeah. Don't hand me these books. I don't want unsolicited advice, and that is all that these things are.
